I have been training since I was 14. When I was a child I started going to karate training sessions and I enjoyed it a lot. It was a great time to learn discipline and mental focus – which helps me a lot now with my body building training.
Even though I have been doing sports almost in my whole life I didn’t always have an athletic physique. When I was a child I was not taught how much healthy eating contributes to your physique and success in your sport. I always loved food, especially sweets and I did not hold it back if I didn’t have to.
It was only about 8 years ago, when I joined a serious gym (Physique Warehouse in West Moseley) where I saw proper athletes training and dieting, and had a chat with people about diet and nutrition. Until then I always thought that if I trained hard and frequently enough, surely I could eat what I wanted – don’t we all think that at the beginning?
After a while I started doing my own research and found out more and more about the importance of my nutrition. My journey has started.
When I met my coach (Harold Marillier IFBB Pro) he helped me with my diet and training for my first competitions. I started competing in 2011 when I did 2 shows, and in 2012 I qualified for the NAC World Championships which I won in June. In November 2012 I won the NAC British Championships as well.
I am not saying I am the best. However I do have a solid understanding of different body types and different physiques. I know that not everyone wants to be a competitive athlete, and there should be a difference between people wanting to keep fit and be healthy and athletes who want to win competitions. I don’t believe in ‘one size fits all’ diets. Everyone is different and everyone’s nutrition plan and training plan should be tailor made to their needs and lifestyles. There are so many diets out there, however I don’t believe in any of them. I believe in making changes to your lifestyles and eating habits for a healthier you.
It’s never easy to start eating in a different way, even if you know it’s for the better. Some foods get boring, sometimes you miss comfort food when you feel down or even happy. And that’s absolutely normal. It’s not about NOT having cravings at all. It’s about learning about your body, how you react to certain foods or even food groups, learning what’s healthy and what’s not. Knowing that you can ‘cheat’ from time to time, but cheating every day will give you the same result every time.
I have been doing a lot of research on nutrition to find ways how you can increase your metabolism without doing hours of cardio in the gym. As we all know cardio increases metabolism but also hits your central nervous system. It’s good to do cardio to keep fit, but when it gets obsessive and you do it to counteract your bad eating habits – this is when you need to stop and think about your everyday nutrition.
Currently I’m in the middle of putting an ebook together for everyone who is struggling with losing weight. Either you’re a ‘normal person’ trying to eat healthy and look fit, or you’re an athlete who is trying to maximise the rewards of your training with your nutrition. This book will be for you. In this book I will explain how to stay healthy, lose fat and keep it off with your nutrition – in a simple way.
I am also planning on doing nutrition seminars for all audiences: people who want to lose weight and/or tone up but don’t know where or how to start making changes to their diets and/or training habits, and athletes who want to take their training and nutrition to the next level.
